“Quonnie” Vacation

Integrating building and landscape

The clients had very specific goals for the redesign of this vacation home. The main goal was to integrate the house into an existing barren landscape and “heal” the site. The elements that needed to be included in the site included an Olympic length pool for the adults to train for triathlons; sufficient open play areas for very active children; interesting patio spaces and planting areas between the house and the pool; and privacy from abutting properties.

Landscape Elements LLC met the client’s goals while focusing the work on meeting guidelines for low impact development and
sustainability.

A minimal amount of material was removed from the pool excavation process. Large boulders and appropriate stones obtained from excavation work were reused on the site. New landscape materials were obtained from local suppliers. All new
pavements are permeable. All new plantings meet sustainable criteria for coastal sites. The pool and spa water is heated via gas fired pumps. Landscape lighting is low voltage LED lighting.
