Rhode Island College Master Plan
Comprehensive campus master plan
Landscape Elements LLC provided their expertise in cultural landscape preservation and community outreach to this project. Throughout the master plan process Landscape Elements focused on providing insight with respect to the preservation and enhancement of the cultural and historic landscape features of the RIC campus and its surroundings. The firm also served as the team leader for interaction and outreach with the campus community and surrounding neighborhoods.
Elena M. Pascarella, ASLA, Principal of Landscape Elements LLC led the public participation and community/campus outreach work during Phase 1. Charrette workshops were held both during the day and in the evenings to include a broad participation. These Charrettes allowed people from diverse interest groups on and off campus to share ideas and interact so that consensus could be achieved for the master plan.
The assessment of cultural and historic landscape components followed the guidelines for Cultural Landscape Reports as outlined by the U. S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Park Historic Structures and Cultural Landscapes Program. This worked focused on an evaluation of the campus history, an analysis of existing landscape elements, and an evaluation to determine which characteristics and features best represent the campus for use in master plan design.
